Flat File Translations

While working on a Flat File Exports within EnterpriseOne, we may noticed that our exports do not appear as desired.  Some times the are filled with boxes and squigglies, other times they have spaces between letters and sometimes they appear perfect - but fail at the destination location.

Flat File translations should be easy enough, right?  I built an application / report using the B34A1010 Flat File process, then reviewed that the output looked great using Notepad - the destination client replied that the text had single-spaces between the letters.

So, I had to do some review for myself, since I couldn't see the issue within Notepad.  From the DOS Command, open the script file using EDIT and ...  Sure enough, using the DOS Edit Command, I could see the letter space letter space effect, throughout the document.

I had just fallen victim to the Flat File Translation 'Genius' within EnterpriseOne

To Fix/Resolve is fairly simple:
  1. Fast Path to P93081:
  2. Create a new entry - using My Username and the Application that will be running the function and CP1252
  3. ACTIVATE the new entry (Make sure you ACTIVATE)
  4. Log out and back in

Now - all is well. I rerun the the process and... What the Heck - Someone Stole the Grinch (I mean, it's working... now)...

Many sites will globalize the Flat File Translations - all at one time.  While other sites will create the entries for each activity.

If you want to create the global entry - consider the following setup:
  • User/grooup: *PUBLIC
  • Environment: *ALL
  • Program: *DEFAULT
  • Version: *DEFAULT
  • Encoding: UTF8 (or place the encoding you prefer to use)

Make Sure you DO 'ACTIVATE' the change.  You will either have to restart services or log out and back in - to validate the changes.
